Timmy The Tapeworm
![]() Allen is a recent graduate of the The Art Institutes International Minnesota, a noise artist and freelance Graphic Designer, living in Minneapolis. His work has been featured on at least a dozen compilations, including 2008's 612noise, on the insides music label. Without further ado, here's the SAR Q&A with Timmy The Tapeworm... *Name: Timmy the Tapeworm *Are there any additional names used to describe this project: Depeche Node, Japeworm *Do you use a pseudonym? (Yes) *Members: One, with the occasional tapeworm. *Founding Members: James Allen *Tape manipulations, digital deconstructions or turntable creations: All of the above, but often not. Or, perhaps more. *Another genre descriptor: Most of my work can probably be described under terms like mash-up, breakcore, or noise. But then there's the work that's not quite any of those that I often refer to as DnB for those with attention disorders, or ADHDnB, for short. However, when I'm too lazy to explain anything, I just say it's Wormcore, and leave it up to whoever to figure it out. *Is there a story behind your name? I was convinced that I had a tapeworm living in me during the summer of 2005. It was a lonely summer, so, excited to have company, I became rather fond of having a tapeworm. He became my friend. I later found out that I never had a tapeworm, just a high metabolism. *Location: Minneapolis, MN *Original Location: Bad medical advice *What is your creative/artistic background: In short: I went to school for Graphic Design. I use that knowledge for the occasional freelance. I do the occasional art show thing. More often than not, the music thing works out better. It's also more fun. *History: Summer 2005 *Born: 1985—MN *Motivations: Making tangible versions of the sounds in my head and other bad cliches. *Philosophy: There isn't a set "philosophy" behind my work, it's more a means of keeping myself from having a nervous breakdown. *How would you like to be remembered: I am still uncertain. *Web address: Until there is more time: http://myspace.com/timmythetapeworm http://www.last.fm/music/Timmy+the+Tapeworm www.some-assembly-required.net |

Junk Culture
![]() There's not a whole lot to be learned about Junk Culture, on the internet (at least, not at the time of this writing). Thanks, however, to a link to his twitter account, I can tell you he appears to be a fan of Freaks & Geeks, Julia Roberts and Sudoku... So, that's kind of interesting. A look at his biography information on Facebook only reveals that a boy band by the name of Lyte Funky Ones was an American three-man pop/rap group consisting of Rich Cronin, Devin Lima and Brad Fischetti, and no, I don't think that has anything to do with anything... not really. It CAN be said that Junk Culture has been performing a lot of shows, including four with label mate, Girl Talk, last year, and also that there are a couple of videos to view at their website. Check it out HERE. Without further ado, here's the SAR Q&A with Junk Culture... *Name: Junk Culture *Are there any additional names used to describe this project: Not yet. Brorock, maybe? *Do you use a pseudonym? Not yet. *Members: Two (Deepak Mantena & Nitin Mantena) - I sing and play samples and record the jams and my brother Nitin plays drums. My friend Harrison is going to be playing drums for me on a tour with Tobacco in September. *Founding Members: Just me. *Tape manipulations, digital deconstructions or turntable creations: I haven't exclusively defined the means by which I make music because for my music making purposes the means are the least important thing to me. I want the freedom to make music with any tools I want without letting the tools define the band. *Another genre descriptor: Genre-wise I've been thinking of my music as cosmic r&b, which I think is especially apt for how I want the material moving forward to sound. *Why you use this descriptor: I really love the production of a lot of 90’s r&b music, from the instrumentation to the vocal treatment. It's something I kind of wanted to emulate in some of my new material. I guess the cosmic part is because the new material is not straight up r&b, it's definitely a little out there. Plus I have a huge interest in outer space and astronomy, so I guess all that stuff just made it feel like an apt way to describe some of the new material, which I feel is quite a bit different than the first record. (I had released music for 6 years prior under another name that just didn't seem to represent the material anymore. So looking through my record collection one day looking for something to listen to, I saw OMD’s “Junk Culture†and it just clicked. It really made sense with the material.) *Location: I've from Oxford, Mississippi, where I've lived most of my life. *Original Location: Idaho *What is your creative/artistic background: I've been playing and recording music since I was kid. I started on piano and guitar, but once I discovered the computer that became a new instrument to make music with. At the same time I've always loved doing stage plays when I can and working on short films. So those three things continue to spiral into taking up the largest amounts of my time. *History: Junk Culture has existed since October of 2008, but I put out two records on my own under a different name years and years before that. *Born: Nitin and I were both born in Idaho. *Motivations: Despite being a huge fan of music, it's still inexplicable to me how certain songs can make me feel the way they do. That's something that transcends conscious reasoning, for me at least, and my motivation is to try and explore that with my own music. *Philosophy: So far, my goal is simply to record material that evokes a strong emotion of some sort in myself. Not just this song makes me happy or sad or something, but strong emotions that have a physicality to them, that are ambivalent even, that I can feel in my stomach. If my material can accomplish that on some level for me, I'm happy to have people hear it in hopes that they'll have a similar reaction. I should say, these high level things are important to my process, but it's not my intention to be heavy handed about this stuff with my listeners. If people listen to my work and get something out of it, I'm pumped, even if it's not what I intended for them to feel. *How would you like to be remembered: For being inconsistently funny on Twitter. *Web address: http://junkculture.biz http://twitter.com/ilikepants www.some-assembly-required.net |

The Superfools
![]() Without further ado, here's the SAR Q&A with The Superfools... *Name: The Superfools *Are there any additional names used to describe this project: James Melendrez aka The Superfools *Do you use a pseudonym? (Yes) *Members: James Melendrez *Tape manipulations, digital deconstructions or turntable creations: It's sample music. *Is there a story behind your name? The Superfools got its name from the 80's song “We built this city on rock and rollâ€. I used it as a sample track on the first album. That first album spoke to me with its words that came from other artists. *Location: I'm from Albuquerque, New Mexico. *Original Location: Grew up in Dallas, Texas and was born in El Paso, Texas in 1977. *What is your creative/artistic background: I work as a successful screen printer in Albuquerque, working on movies and TV shows and political printing. Also a part of a Union for printing. Started to make music in the summer of ’99, jumping from computer to computer. I quickly became friends with anyone who would let me use their music programs. *History: The Superfools started as a joke with my friends to see who could make the best mix tape. I joined a college radio station around that time at New Mexico State University. My show was called the Jesus show and I played my first album on air. The Program Director was not all that happy, but Superfools was getting a lot of buzz over the things I was doing. I was DJing at a lot of local bars at the time. *Born: 1977 *Motivations: My motivation comes from a basic need to make art because I'm an artist. It's just in us as artists we have to create. Also I get a motivation each time I create something new. It makes me want to create more and do better. Artists are just born with this basic need to create from birth. *Philosophy: The philosophy behind the band? Don't know because the fools are always changing and I sometimes have no control over my subject matter. Pop culture just happens. *How would you like to be remembered: I would like to be remembered as a really good concept artist. *Web address: http://typodmary.com/superfools.html www.some-assembly-required.net |

OK, here we go... I'm posting a bit early this week, as I'll be "migrating" my blog this afternoon. In a worst case scenario, things crash and burn and then I won't be able to post this weekend, so I decided to upload Episode 45 before making the move... Up until now, Blogger has supported "FTP publishing", and hopefully after I move everything over to their servers, things will still work as smoothly as they have been. I've been podcasting for about five years now, with very few problems, and that's saying a lot for a technophobe like me! So, check out this week's episode (#45 - the last episode of our 25th quarter). We've got some special programming coming up next quarter, before we settle in for more new episodes, later in the summer, and then for the rest of the year. In the meantime, stay tuned for a collection of some of my favorite interview episodes, for the next few weeks! Wish me luck with the transfer... there should be a note soon about changes in the URL, etc. You'll have to update your bookmarks, or subscriptions, and/or who knows what else. Sorry for the inconvenience... I hope you'll stick with us. You can always find each week's new episode here at some-assembly-required.net, no matter what happens... Thanks for listening! This week's episode represents the first really big taste of our upcoming CD compilation! Check out Episode 254 HERE. To mark the occasion of the show's 10th Anniversary, in 2009, Some Assembly Required and mnartists.org teamed up to invite sound collage artists from around the world to submit fifty-second tracks composed of at least 50% post consumer material. The upcoming album, titled "50/50", has been taking a bit longer than expected, but rest assured, a final push is under way, and the release is coming very soon. In the meantime, check out some of what I think are the standouts, in this week's episode (#254). Since about twenty of this week's tracks are less than a minute long, there are an unusually large number of artists featured this time around. The list of artists who have previously responded to the SAR Q&A is therefor a bit longer as well... There are over 150 of these online artist features at the Some Assembly Required website HERE, but for now, check out these twenty one... ![]() SAR Q&A with A plus D ![]() SAR Q&A with B'O'K ![]() SAR Q&A with dj BC ![]() SAR Q&A with Beatrix*JAR ![]() SAR Q&A with The Beige Channel ![]() SAR Q&A with Ros Bobos ![]() SAR Q&A with The Bran Flakes ![]() SAR Q&A with Cassetteboy ![]() SAR Q&A with The Coherent Encoherence ![]() SAR Q&A with Joe Frawley ![]() SAR Q&A with I Cut People ![]() SAR Q&A with Idiom Creak ![]() SAR Q&A with DJ Lobsterdust ![]() SAR Q&A with Orchid Spangiafora ![]() SAR Q&A with Osymyso ![]() SAR Q&A with Realistic ![]() SAR Q&A with Alyce Santoro ![]() SAR Q&A with Jeffrey Sconce ![]() SAR Q&A with Silica-Gel ![]() SAR Q&A with stAllio! Chris Strouth
![]() I was the fortunate receiver of a music review by Mr. Strouth in 1999, and we somehow got in touch soon thereafter. Maybe a year or two later, I asked him if he'd join me in studio to talk about the history of electronics and appropriation in Minnesota music. The special episode aired in 2002. It was a casual conversation, just scratching the surface of all that has gone on here, but engaging nonetheless. Check out Episode 26 HERE. Strouth has pretty much done everything from writing and design, to performance and composition. His resume includes names like Hair Police, Rifle Sport Gallery, Depth Probe and Twin/Tone... If you're from around the Twin Cities, and have been for awhile, then no doubt you can appreciate what this guy's been up to, and for how long. He's worked extensively with The Weisman and Walker Art Museums, and written and directed theater pieces at Red Eye, where he was also involved with their music program. Check out his newest music project, Paris 1919, HERE. Check out his blog, "Tales Of The Idiot" for much more information, and his entry at MPR's Minnewiki, HERE. Without further ado, here's the SAR Q&A with Chris Strouth... *Name: Paris1919 *Members: Chris Strouth *Tape manipulations, digital deconstructions or turntable creations: Digital deconstruction, I use a small arsenal of Ableton Live, and Reason and roughly a zillion plug ins. I tend to use a lot of micro sampling where I am just using a fraction of the original sample cel. It’s very rare in my work where you can tell where the source material is from. The track on your episode is a rare exception. *Location: MPLS, its a great city to work in. When I started there wasn't much of an experimental scene here at all. Now it's rife with it. You can't swing an emo kid without running into an experimental night somewhere. *What is your creative/artistic background: That’s a loaded question, but the short version is I am a producer and probably to a larger point an instigator. I have worked in every form of music I can think of except for new country, made movies, TV shows, theater, played in major museums and crap rock joints. This group (Paris1919) represents a new thing for me in that it’s my first solo project since 1987 - yes, I am old. *History: Jesus, don't make me recount that, if you really care look it up. *Born: July 28, 1968 (please note same birthday as Marcel DuChamp). *Motivations: No idea, I started making noise music in High School listening to John Zorn and David Van Tiegham and got my first sampler, The supper classy Casio Sk1, and was hooked. Then I started in groups and wound up doing everything from techno to rockabilly, neo classical and jazz. Eventually I just found that I had a lot to say and I needed to build a new language to say it. *Philosophy: My motto is “as I live and learn, dig and be dug in return." - Langston Hughes *How would you like to be remembered: There's a paraphrased line in a Dave Clark 5 song that sums it up: "He was young with all of his mite." *Web address: http://soundcloud.com/paris1919 www.some-assembly-required.net |

50/50
Our tenth anniversary was one year ago Wednesday (1/27), and as the call for submissions for the 50/50 Compilation was made to commemorate that event last year, it seems like this might be the best time to make an announcement about the upcoming release! If all goes according to plan, we'll be releasing a limited edition CD within the next month or two, and I have to say it's definitely been worth the wait. Large segments of this fifty track compilation have been stuck in my head for quite a few weeks now, and that's not something I've always been able to say - not even about some of my very favorite sound collages... We'll have the full details, including artwork and a list of contributing artists in the next week or so. Until then... Thanks for 11 great years! Jon Nelson www.some-assembly-required.net |

Two to check out...
It's been a good month for those of us interested in the history of appropriation in sound collage and music. There are at least two new programs worth checking out... ![]() There are at least three more episodes planned for the series as well, making this one of the most detailed histories of the genre/movement, to date. I've been collecting and researching this kind of music for well over a decade myself, and its remarkable how much more I've learned, in the past few months, just by listening to the first four episodes of this series. It's definitely worth checking out. You can check out episodes 1-4 of "Variations" HERE, and stay tuned in the coming months for new installments, as well... ![]() Thanks for listening, Jon Nelson www.some-assembly-required.net |

Our 11th Anniversary is fast approaching, and with it will come some big news, so be sure to tune in next week... THIS WEEK seemed like as good a time as any to upload 2003's special anniversary episode, celebrating our... 4th Anniversary? Yes, for some reason there was some attention being paid to this seemingly un-noteworthy anniversary (check out the 2003 Arts feature in the Minneapolis Star Tribune HERE). My guess is that perhaps we just weren't sure we'd make it to the much more interesting 5th Birthday, the very next year... I honestly don't remember the reasoning at the time, but nevertheless, here it is, the amazing 4th Anniversary Special episode of Some Assembly Required (episode 44)... as it aired about seven years ago, next week... E-603
![]() While studying at Hampshire College, in Massachusets, he performed a lot at different schools around the area, and has played shows with artists such as The Hood Internet, Passion Pit and Yo La Tengo. There are currently two releases available, 2008's "Something For Everyone" and "Torn Up", which was released in 2009. Without further ado, here's the SAR Q&A with E-603... *Name: E-603 *Are there any additional names used to describe this project: No, E-603 is perfect. Pronounced (EE-Six-Oh-Three) *Members: Only one, myself, Ethan Ward. *Founding Members: Ethan Ward *Tape manipulations, digital deconstructions or turntable creations: Digital Deconstructions for sure. I work entirely in a digital format. I feel like what I do is deconstruct popular audio and then reconstruct some new art out of it. *Another genre descriptor: Not at all. I don't think what I am doing is in any way plundering (re: John Oswald’s “Plunderphonicsâ€). Or at least no more plundering than what the average computer-savvy high school student does on a Thursday night. So with that in mind I don't really think I need to think of a clever name. *Is there a story behind your name? Well, I was in a pinch one night in 2003 and I needed to think of something cryptic yet meaningful. So with about 28 seconds of thought I came up with E-603. The E stands for my first name Ethan. 603 is the area code for the entire state of New Hampshire so therefor the "603" stands in "E-603" as an expression of "Live Free or Die". *Location: I am from Nashua, New Hampshire. The idea of E-603 currently resides there and in Boston, Massachusetts as well. *Original Location: Nashua, New Hampshire *What is your creative/artistic background: I have always been making music. I began recording and producing my music when I was 12 years old. I have been educated in classical and experimental music composition. I don't really have a background in one specific place, I have kind of been all over the place, and I will most likely continue to be. *History: E-603 as an idea began in 2003, however no music was released until about 2005. *Born: I was born June 14th, 1989. *Motivations: Making rad sounds motivates me. *Philosophy: I love creating a cross cultural musical format. There is very little types of music that actually take separate types of music and force them to work together rather than only taking the inspiration from different types of music. That, to me, is a very beautiful thing. I love manipulating the sounds to work just the way I want them to. *How would you like to be remembered: As the reincarnation of GG Allin. *Web address: For my website: E-603.com For my most recent album: www.tornup.net/TORNUP www.some-assembly-required.net |

the Cranial Fishers
![]() Chambers studied music and composition in school, and played in a band before turning his creative attentions to sound collage. You can check out some of his work HERE. The Cranial Fisher's online compilation site, "Snuggle This!", also hosts over three dozen different tracks by sound collage artists he's met online. Check it out HERE. Without further ado, here's the SAR Q&A with the Cranial Fishers... *Name: The Cranial Fishers *Are there any additional names used to describe this project: No *Do you use a pseudonym? Just the Cranial Fishers, but I use CraigCo as a "corporate" name. I'm considering releasing some of my non-sample-based stuff as the CraigCo Aural Gratification Ensemble. *Members: Craig Chambers, although I did use C. William Chambers for things I wrote in college. It sounded more "arty". *Founding Members: I take full responsibility. *Tape manipulations, digital deconstructions or turntable creations: I consider it more digital reconstruction than deconstruction. Perhaps "media manipulation". I use a lot of samples from TV and movies. *Another genre descriptor: When I try to explain it to normal people, I just call it audio collage. *Is there a story behind your name? Someone told me that every time you learn something, it creates another wrinkle in your brain...cranial fissures. A bit of creative misspelling, and there it is. I never looked it up to see if it was true or not. The small "t" on "the" is a graphic choice. I just like the way it looks. *Location: Dayton, OH, but when I started I lived near Rochester, NY. *Original Location: Dayton, OH *What is your creative/artistic background: High school band geek (trumpet), went on to study composition and marketing in college, dropped out, attended the Recording Workshop in Chillecothe, OH in summer of '76, spent some time as a roadie/tech/bassplayer at the lowest level of bar-banddom, now I make noise as a creative release from the real world. *History: My first attempts at sound collage were around 1984-85. I started out with a couple cassette decks and a VCR, (you can hear me pushing the pause button on some of my earlier stuff), had a small 4-track studio for a while, but now it's all done on computer. My actual output is pretty small for 25 years, but I have lots of unfinished stuff. I don't play out or do anything live. *Born: Dayton, OH, 1955 *Motivations: I've always had an interest in composition, and this enables me to make music/noise without dealing with other people’s opinions or egos. I got really tired of hearing "you can't do that" when I was in school or other groups. *Philosophy: I'm not sure there is one, but I like to feel that it's entertaining, and possibly thought provoking at times. *How would you like to be remembered: I had an answer to this, but I forgot it. (rimshot.wav). I would like to think I had some small part encouraging others who do this kind of thing, even though no one's ever heard of me. Sometime in the mid-90's, I'm not even sure when, I joined a mailing list called "Snuggles", a community of like-minded artists, and then put together a website to allow members to post a track for public consumption. It's called "Snuggle This!", and it's now up to about 40 tracks from various audio collagists, including many who have been featured on SAR. There is a track by the artist/group, a link to their website, and usually an e-mail address. Some tracks are available nowhere else, some people have since disappeared. I believe it was one of the first on-line compilation sites. There's a 10 year anniversary somewhere out there, but I didn't really note when it started (Quick shout-out to Pan at Sensory Research, who provides space for the site and moderates the list, and to all my fellow Snuggleers). I encourage anyone who is interested to join Snuggles, and to submit a track for Snuggle This! Snuggles members are also the people behind The Droplift Project and Free Speech For Sale, as well as Dictionaraoke and Deconstructing the Wall. *Web address: http://craigco.sensoryresearch.net Snuggles: http://lists.sensoryresearch.net/mailman/listinfo/snuggles www.some-assembly-required.net |

Ruth Anderson
![]() Anderson played with the Totenberg Instrumental Ensemble in the 1950's, and toured briefly with the Boston Pops Orchestra as principal flautist. In the 1960's she was an orchestrator at NBC, working on documentary films, and went on to found the electroacoustic music center at Hunter College, in 1968. She served as the organization's Director, and taught theory and composition at the College for over twenty years. She has been the recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and New York State Council on the Arts as well as a Fulbright Award, to name but a few of the organizations who have recognized her formally. Her compositions have been featured in festivals, on public radio, and at new music centers around the world. Her responses below have been augmented by her partner, composer Annea Lockwood, and include a description of Ms. Anderson's 1970 composition, "Dump," which she wrote in 1986. Without further ado, here's the SAR Q&A with Ruth Anderson... *Name: Ruth Anderson *Are there any additional names used to describe this project: Ruth Anderson is my full name. *Tape manipulations, digital deconstructions or turntable creations: It is a tape collage (analog). The media are “Dumpâ€s topic and the "dump sounds" were recorded in a studio… Here's a description of “Dump†(1970) written in 1986: "Collage of folk songs, pop tunes and electronically generated "dump sounds" to form a social commentary from World War 1 through the sixties." *Location: New York based *Original Location: Kalispell, MT *What is your creative/artistic background: Composer, flautist, and orchestrator for NBC (1960-66) and Lincoln Center Theater (1966). She designed and directed the Hunter College (CUNY) Electronic Music Studio (1966 - 89) where she also taught composition and theory. *History: Her earliest compositions date from 1950. *Born: 3/21/28 Kalispell, MT *Motivations: Anyone's life at any moment is a collage. *Philosophy: To be aware in the moment. *Web address: Here is her entry at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruth_Anderson www.some-assembly-required.net |

This week's episode features our 2009 interview with Wayne Butane. I really didn't think I'd ever get the chance to interview him, when asking him to do the Q&A last year (You can check that out HERE), but he finally relented, and the more info the better! Check out Episode 243 HERE, for our phone interview with everyone's favorite cut-up artist, Wayne Butane. That's the big news. Aside from that, I guess I could mention that last week's episode marked our entry into the last quarter of our 11th year, but I suppose those kinds of details are really only interesting to me. We've got another phone interview coming up - that should be of general interest. I wanted to get at least these two in before the year was up, so our 2009 phone interview with Stock, Hausen & Walkman is scheduled to air in about a month. Stay tuned... I'll leave it at that. Thanks as always for checking out the show. Please drop me a line and let me know where you're listening, and what you're thinking. My contact info can be found HERE. Thanks for listening! The Kleptones
![]() I forget how I got a copy of A Night At the Hip Hopera, but as you can imagine, I was a fast fan. It mixes the mashup concept with other sampling techniques, which is what I personally love to hear. A mashup/cut-up extravaganza as spun on the wheels of steel... now that would be something I'd like to hear more of. More recently, The Kleptones have released a new mashup concept album called "24 Hours" which takes the listener through an entire day, using nothing but samples to tell the story. There's a new album in the works, as well, so keep your ear to the ground, and check out his past projects, in the meantime, HERE. He's also a live DJ, and has made a name for himself as such, putting on fantastic performances combining lap top destruction, dancers, live video mixing and music. The 2007 release, "Live'r Than You'll Ever Be," attempts to document one such performance. Check it out HERE. Without further ado, here's the SAR Q&A with The Kleptones... *Name: The Kleptones *Are there any additional names used to describe this project: No. *Do you use a pseudonym? Yes! *Members: It varies – has been as many as six, and as little as one, depending on the situation. I’m the only constant member though, and usually the only musical one. We have been embellished with video and live performance art from time to time, when budgets allow. At the moment, Eric Kleptone – I’m just finishing up a new album so the band members are all in my head, getting drunk and arguing long and loud with each other about basslines and delay tempos. *Founding Members: Eric Kleptone! *Tape manipulations, digital deconstructions or turntable creations: I wouldn’t, but if I had to, “Digital Deconstructionsâ€. *Another genre descriptor: Not really. Call it what you want! “Mashups†is a dirty word now, as it’s slipped out of vogue, but it doesn’t matter. It’s a tag, there have been ones before, there’ll be other ones sometime. *Is there a story behind your name? Not the descriptor, but the name “The Kleptones†- We stole it, unintentionally I hasten to add, from a photo of what we thought was a piece of stencil graffiti – it was actually the logo of a label from a few years back. Vicki Bennett from People Like Us was one of the people involved in the label, and got in contact – she gave her blessing to our appropriation of their appropriation, which was very kind! The “Earman†graphic that accompanies the text was actually originally sourced from an old RCA stereo test record sleeve also, so it’s another multi-layered appropriation. I love the concept of sampling the sampled, visually or aurally – taking a break from a 90’s hardcore or hip-hop record rather than the original 70’s funk 45 – you get a layer of digital grit that wasn’t originally there, on top of the surface noise of the original vinyl, and the hiss on the master tape etc... *Location: Brighton, UK *Original Location: Somewhere else in the UK! *What is your creative/artistic background: A lifetime of playing in bands, being a sound and lighting engineer, and being a DJ and Producer in my own right. Eventually got tired of listening to everyone else and thought I could do better. Also a lifetime of collecting music and odd sounds came in handy too. *History: The Kleptones have existed now for six or seven years. What I created prior to that isn’t important to anyone that wasn’t there at the time. With The Kleptones there is always an ear towards creating something that will stand the test of time a little more than just soundtracking the moment, up till now anyway. It seems to be working though, as people are still discovering older things we’ve done, listening to them with fresh ears and mailing us to say good things. *Born: (no answer – see above) *Motivations: The need to communicate. The need for an individual, personal method of expression. The need for a soapbox on which to stand. The need to differentiate myself from all others. The need to create. The need to work. Motivated by stupidity, ignorance and the “chew it up – spit it out†attitude that is prevalent in modern attitudes to art and culture. *Philosophy: I don’t think it’s fully formed yet. We’re still on the path to enlightenment – when we get to the end, we’ll know why we took this route. *How would you like to be remembered: A national holiday. *Web address: www.kleptones.com www.some-assembly-required.net |
